Petra Branke

For nearly two decades, Petra Branke has been capturing what often goes unnoticed, guided by an unfailing sense for the moment and a compassionate eye for the everyday. She calls herself a curious observer, inspired by people, places, and the pulse of Berlin.

Her fascination with the city’s street art scene led her to explore Berlin by bike, discovering new images on walls, bridges, and facades. Over time, she developed her distinctive documentary style — close, honest, and unpolished. Her photographs reflect the rhythm of the city, its movement and transformation, and the traces people leave behind.

Branke documents life between glamour and graffiti, between glitter and grit. She reveals the beauty of the ordinary and moments that usually remain unseen. The Alexanderplatz, where she lives, runs like a red thread through her work, a place where the city never stands still.

Her images emerge spontaneously and intuitively. “I’m interested in what is real,” she says. The unfinished, the accidental, and the imperfect define her visual language and make her photographs authentic documents of urban life.

Since the early 2000s, Branke has accompanied Berlin’s graffiti and hip-hop scene, often as a quiet witness, sometimes as a trusted companion. Her work tells the story of a city that is constantly in motion: raw, human, and full of rhythm.
