Solo Exhibition by Felix Rodewaldt

Overview

The opening exhibition “Shimauma Scramble” presents Munich-born artist Felix Rodewaldt, whose signature tape art transforms architectural space into precise geometric illusions. For this show, Rodewaldt explores the visual rhythm of “Razzle Dazzle” camouflage patterns, originally developed for naval ships during World War I in Japan and beyond, translating them into vivid, multi-colored screen prints.

“Shimauma,” meaning “zebra” in Japanese, captures the exhibition’s play between structure and motion. The works draw viewers into a hypnotic pulse of rhythm and precision, revealing new layers of movement and depth with every glance. In the back room, a striking black-and-white installation extends this experience into space itself, where perception and architecture merge into a singular, optical encounter.

Felix Rodewaldt studied under Professor Gregor Hildebrandt in Munich. His works can be found from Berlin to Tokyo, across façades, stairwells, and embassies, each marked by his unmistakable precision and conceptual clarity.

Artist

Felix Rodewaldt

Felix Rodewaldt (*1988, Munich) is a tape art pioneer whose recent focus lies in large-scale murals. He considers contemporary architecture his canvas, transforming walls, stairwells, and overlooked urban spaces into dynamic visual experiences.

Beginning during his studies, Rodewaldt developed a distinctive approach: vibrant, site-specific interventions that alter the perception of both public and private environments. Drawn to forgotten and transitional spaces—elevators, staircases, corridors—he explores the visual potential of even the smallest surface.
